TAX ACCOUNT TECHNICIAN
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To assist Treasurer’s Accountant, participate in the preparation of accounting records and reports pertaining to taxes and investments, and act as lead worker over operating section of Treasurer's Office.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is under the supervision of the Treasurer and Deputies.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: An employee in this classification may be called upon to do any or all of the following:
Assist in the internal auditing of Treasurer's Department.
Participate in the preparation and maintenance of Treasurer's Department investment ledgers and reports.
Assist in record retention of investments and bank accounts
Instruct and assist clerical personnel of lower classification.
Reconcile daily collections and receipts and prepare daily deposits.
Maintain record of returned payments and deposit of repayments

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Some knowledge of accounting principles and procedures as applied to tax and governmental investment accounting.
Considerable knowledge of municipal treasurer's office methods and procedures.
Ability to make or verify a variety of arithmetic computations quickly and accurately.
Ability to prepare and type statistical records and reports.
Ability to operate various office machines.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees.
Working knowledge of personal computers and accounting software system applications for such computers.
Requirements
Requirements:
- High school graduation or G.E.D. equivalent.
o ORIGINAL diploma or official transcripts REQUIRED at time of application. - Supplemented by courses in general business, accounting or finance.
- Three (3) years’ experience in preparation and collection of property taxes, personal property taxes and special assessments, governmental bookkeeping, related clerical and accounting work.
- Ability to type at a rate of forty-five (45) net words per minute.

Pay rate: $66,826/year - $70,466/year (After 5 years)
