Senior Investment Associates are responsible for developing relationships with internal teams (performance reporting, accounting, trading, technology, alternatives, clients and handling many of the routine investment related and client relationship tasks to allow the portfolio manager to focus on their responsibilities.
Responsible for all administrative aspects of a portfolio. This includes file set up on client accounts, ordering reports, prepares all material for client review meetings. Works independently to support the investment management clients and Senior Investment Advisors. Formulates recommendations proactively to support the Senior Investment Advisors.
Responsible for supporting risk and compliance requirements for the team, including Working diligently to mitigate losses due to error and being mindful of possible contingencies. Coordinating and/or supporting investment or client service teams' monthly REV and New Account Review processes and documentation (as directed by supervisor).
Senior Investment Associates in Northern Trust's Foundation and Institutional Advisors (FIA) practice support Senior Portfolio Advisor efforts with managing client relationships and overseeing the investment programs for discretionary Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) with portfolios of $10-$500 million. The FIA practice's client base includes a mix of foundations, endowments, healthcare firms and associations.
The Senior Investment Associate is a key player and requires the ability to perform a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable speaking to clients/investment committees.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create client presentations that are comprehensive, review performance, highlight the team's outlook, and can include special subject discussions.
- Assist with the development of custom investment portfolios that meet client objectives, portfolio trading/rebalancing, and participate in client communication and meetings.
- Assess portfolio performance relative to benchmarks.
- Evaluate and recommend investment manager changes.
- Conduct asset allocation analysis for clients.
- Support new business efforts and occasionally participate in presentations.
- Assist with compliance reviews.
The successful candidate will benefit from having:
- Completion of a four-year college degree program is required or equivalent work experience. Any major is acceptable; however, business, economics, accounting, and finance are preferred.
- Candidates with prior experience in financial services as an investment associate are preferred.
- Enrolled in or willingness to enroll in and complete the CFA or CIMA program is desirable.
