- Senior Counsel
Description
The Senior Counsel will join a prominent Pittsburgh-based real estate development and management company.
The Senior Counsel is responsible for negotiating, drafting and reviewing commercial leases and other related real estate agreements (i.e. easements, option notices, renewal amendments, estoppels, subordination and non-disturbance agreements, termination agreements, promotional license agreements, etc.). The attorney will primarily work independently in the Pittsburgh office, but will also provide guidance across departments as needed. The attorney will support the Leasing and Construction & Operations departments for projects related to commercial real estate and leasing activities, and also be responsible for reviewing and negotiating commercial insurance bids and policies to obtain the best possible coverage.

Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities and areas of focus include, but are not limited to:
Draft and negotiate complex retail leases and supporting documentation
Lead efforts in supporting the Leasing and Construction & Operations departments with regard to all facets of commercial leasing
Lead negotiations that are business critical, complex and/or time sensitive in nature
Operate through a lens of risk mitigation with respect to legal issues, commercial business terms, property administration and services while supporting business goals and imperatives
Review existing leases to provide counsel on rights and obligations while also meeting critical timelines
Address various lease structures, including subleases, ground leases, build-to-suit and retrofit-to-suit arrangements
Partner with leasing executives, brokers, lawyers and Finance Department to expedite the deal process
Manage real estate portfolio while also assisting in a wide variety of projects
Provide guidance, interpretation and development to a supporting team of executives, lease administrators and staff
Demonstrate the ability to update leasing templates, terms and conditions as necessary to drive efficiency on behalf of the company
Review and negotiate commercial insurance bids and policies
Qualifications:
Strong verbal and written communication skills including negotiation skills
Strong relationship-building skills across multiple leaders, layers and cross-functional business partners
Experience representing both landlords and tenants highly desirable
