Opportunity
The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium in Sanibel, Florida seeks a creative and energetic professional to implement strategies and activities that advance institutional goals for attendance, educational program participation, brand awareness, and community-building; manage and grow its membership program; and manage donor records and acknowledgments for a culture of positive donor stewardship.
The Marketing and Membership Manager works closely with all departments including curatorial, education, aquariums, admissions, retail, and administration to develop plans and achieve goals. The position is full-time, on-site, has growth and advancement potential, and reports to the Executive Director.

Scope and Responsibilities Include
Actively manage a program of cross-marketing initiatives and partnerships with area businesses and attractions to promote visitation to the Museum.
Support marketing activities including digital strategy, media relations, advertising, photography, and on-site signage.
Produce social media content, manage the social media calendar, and coordinate content production by other staff and partners.
Manage content and back end for the Museum website.
Coordinate with the Director of Retail on management of the online Store.
Manage renewals, benefits design and administration, and growth strategies for the Museum Membership program.
Process gift acknowledgments, maintain donor record-keeping, and assist in generating mailing lists for donor and/or member outreach.
Participate in the design and production of special events such as exhibition openings, lectures, fundraisers, and member/volunteer appreciation.
Maintain consistent communication with admissions to ensure smooth fulfillment of membership benefits, and support admissions as needed on back-end database adjustments and processes.
Other duties as needed.
About the Museum
The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium is a natural history museum and aquarium with a primary focus on shells, mollusks, marine life, and conservation education. It is a non-profit, educational organization that and is accredited by both the American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The Museum’s permanent exhibits include the Great Hall of Shells which is one of the largest and finest public exhibitions of shells in the world, and 11 aquariums and touch pools that exhibit hundreds of animals including octopuses, conchs, Giant Clam, California Sea Hare, fish, corals, and many more. Temporary exhibitions, publications, and a year-round schedule of educational offerings for all ages round out a dynamic, ever-evolving program.
In a typical year the Museum welcomes over 60,000 visitors with tens of thousands more served by offsite educational and outreach programs. The Museum’s home of Sanibel and the surrounding Southwest Florida region is considered by many to be one the best beach and shelling destinations in the United States, and one of the most desirable places to live.

Requirements
Qualifications
Excellent writing, speaking, and organizational skills. Experience producing social media is required, with experience in non-profit marketing and/or membership programs preferred. Experience or a genuine interest in one or more of the areas of museums, aquariums, natural history, and conservation is highly beneficial. A team player enthusiastic to engage with the island community and work with a small, dedicated, and creative staff in an often fast-paced setting. Competence in Excel and comfort with a range of communications methods, digital platforms and technology, including the ability to quickly attain proficiency in Versai database software. Some weekend and evening work is required, especially November – April. Bachelor’s degree required.
