Description
Position DescriptionSeattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
In this position, you will perform maintenance and tenant services at various City Light facilities such as general janitorial, lawn care and landscaping tasks, storm drain monitoring, office moves, and equipment installations. This position will report to the Skagit Maintenance Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Here is more about what you'll be doing:
- Perform preventive maintenance on facilities equipment, fixtures, and building systems including inside NERC secured powerhouses at the Skagit Project.
- Install furnishings and appliances
- Maintaining over 40 acres of lawns, garden beds and public spaces.
- Performs the minor repairs of various crafts. Provide labor assistance at a semiskilled level. Operate hand, battery, electric, gas, propane and pneumatic tools.
- Repair and maintain equipment and tools; order and pick up supplies.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance and moving of regular and systems (modular) office furniture.
- Assist with minor and major office moves and rearrangements.
- Perform various janitorial tasks in the breakrooms, restrooms and offices at Skagit Powerhouses, and Compound Buildings.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
One year of experience performing general laboring/manual work involving the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of public facilities (Combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- May be required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
- Frequently required to lift objects up to 50 pounds. May occasionally be required to lift objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
- Occasionally requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
- Work may be performed in confined spaces and at heights up to 130 feet.
- Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
License, Certification and Other Requirements
- Washington State driver's license is required. This position will require the occasional driving of city vehicles.
- City of Seattle Grade IV or Grade V Boilers Firemen's license may be required for some positions.
- Washington State Forklift Safety and Operation certificate may be required for some positions.
- Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to resolve problems
- Ability to effectively prioritize work.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse work force.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Experience working with systems furniture (e.g. Steelcase, ASI, Herman Miller, etc.).

Additional Information
The full salary range for this position is $37.95 to $37.95 per hour.
