Overview

The Head Golf Professional serves as the leader of all golf operations at Idlewild Country Club and is a key member of the Club's senior leadership team, reporting directly to the General Manager.

This position is responsible for delivering an exceptional golf experience for members and guests through leadership of daily golf operations, tournament administration, merchandising, instruction, member engagement, and staff development. The Head Golf Professional will oversee all aspects of the Golf Department including Golf Shop operations, outside services, caddie program coordination, tournament programming, and golf instruction.

The ideal candidate is highly visible, energetic, service-minded, organized, and passionate about building relationships with members while leading a welcoming and polished golf operation.

The opportunity to own and operate the Golf Shop is negotiable for the right candidate.

Experience Required

The successful candidate should possess:

• PGA of America Class A Membership in good standing
• Minimum 3-5 years of progressive golf operations leadership experience
• Private club experience preferred
• Strong tournament operations and merchandising background
• Experience supervising Assistant Professionals, outside services, caddies, and golf operations staff
• Strong understanding of the Rules of Golf, handicap administration, and member service standards
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Experience with tee sheet systems, POS systems, tournament software, and member communication platforms
• Ability to teach lessons, clinics, junior golf, ladies programming, and player development initiatives
• A professional appearance and highly visible leadership style
• Strong interpersonal skills and a hospitality-driven mindset
• Availability to work weekends, holidays, tournaments, and peak club activity periods

Essential Responsibilities

The Head Golf Professional will:

• Lead all daily golf operations
• Deliver a polished and member-focused golf experience
• Oversee Golf Shop operations and merchandising
• Maintain open communication with committees, members, staff, and management
• Manage tournament operations, outings, leagues, and Club events
• Supervise and develop assistant professionals, outside services staff, and caddies
• Coordinate tee sheet management and pace of play
• Maintain high standards throughout the practice facilities, bag room, and golf operations areas
• Ensure accurate billing and accounting for all golf-related services
• Assist in developing golf programming that drives member engagement
• Lead instruction programs including junior golf, women's golf, clinics, and player development
• Maintain a visible presence throughout the Club and golf facilities
• Support the Club's culture of hospitality and family engagement
• Work collaboratively with Club leadership and department heads
