Role Description:
Senior architecture leader responsible for defining and owning the end-to-end functional and technical architecture strategy across Global Markets Technology (GMT). Contributes to enterprise-wide architecture governance, cross-LOB design alignment, and front-to-back solution architecture for strategic transformation programmes (for example, Subledger, Trade & Risk platform modernisation, cloud migration). Acts as the primary architecture interface between GMT and enterprise architecture functions, shaping the bank's technical strategy with a particular focus on cloud adoption and standardised technology stacks. Ensures cohesive target-state design across Equities, FICC, Risk, Finance and Operations.
Responsibilities:
- Own GMT target-state architecture - cross-asset class, front-to-back - and drive alignment with enterprise architecture standards and governance frameworks (TOGAF-aligned).
- Act as GMT's primary representative to the enterprise architecture community; contribute to and help shape bank-wide architecture principles, technology standards, and cloud strategy.
- Advocate standardised technology stacks across GMT, driving rationalisation of duplicative platforms and ensuring new investments align to agreed enterprise patterns.
- Lead GMT participation in blueprint, Program Designs, and capability investment processes; ensure architecture integrity across the portfolio.
- Contribute to and influence architecture for strategic transformations (for example. Subledger, cloud adoption, data platform modernisation, regulatory change programmes).
- Influence functionally across the full front-to-back trade lifecycle - from order capture and risk through to clearing, settlement, and finance - ensuring architectural decisions reflect end-to-end business impact.
- Drive rationalisation of legacy infrastructure, application consolidation, and platform standardisation across GMT.
- Ability to help shape cloud migration strategy as the firm accelerates adoption.
- Develop a Community of Practice and develop and mentor a team of senior architects embedded across GMT domains.
Managerial Responsibilities
- Outstanding management skills and consistent record of building, developing and retaining highly talented teams; strategic talent planning and succession mind-set
- Establish and maintain effective management routines to: advocate opportunity and inclusion, manage processes and data, and manage and coach teams
- Actively manage expenses, making financial decisions using sound judgement and appropriate consideration of risk vs. reward and impact on both direct and enterprise financials
- Create and instil an environment to openly discuss and debate risk at all levels of the organization
- Lead by example, model what 'right' looks like and inspect, coach and improve the performance of managers across the organization
What we are looking for:
- Senior MD with extensive applicable experience within a financial services organisation, with significant tenure in a Tier 1 investment bank or global markets business.
- Deep knowledge of capital markets workflows: trade lifecycle, order management, risk & P&L, collateral, clearing, and post-trade operations - front-to-back breadth is highly desired.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks impacting technology: FRTB, Basel IV, Dodd-Frank, MiFID II, EMIR.
- Proven ability to model and analyse end-to-end business processes, identify systemic issues, and articulate pragmatic solutions.
- Experience contributing to or leading enterprise architecture governance, including engagement with enterprise architects on cross-LOB and firmwide standards.
- Record of defining and executing large-scale, cross-asset technology architecture programmes on a global scale.
- Combination of functional and technical depth: able to engage at system design level as well as business process and data architecture.
- Demonstrated success operating in a matrixed, shared-services model across global time zones.
- Ability to decompose complex issues and drive timely decisions, knowing when to engage others for additional input, and when to act independently.
- Ability to manage multiple and often competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Leadership Competencies
- Executive presence and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in a concise and insightful way to executives at all levels of the organization.
- Extensive relationship management skills to navigate the complexities of gaining buy-in, building consensus and resolving conflicts in a large organization
- Demonstrated strategic thought leadership and intellectual curiosity
- Ability to drive large-scale strategic initiatives with a track record of driving change; challenge conventional thinking
