Description
OverviewAugusta Country Club (ACC) is a private, member-owned club dedicated to providing exceptional golf, tennis, dining, and social experience in a welcoming, historic, and safe environment. The Club values outstanding service, fiscal responsibility, and a strong sense of community.
Reporting directly to the Board of Governors through the Board President, the General Manager serves as the Club's chief operating officer and is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and daily operations of the Club. The General Manager implements the policies established by the Board while providing strategic leadership to ensure operational excellence, financial sustainability, exceptional member experiences, and a positive workplace culture.
As the Club's visible leader, the General Manager fosters strong relationships with members, guests, employees, and the surrounding community while ensuring that Augusta Country Club remains a premier private club in Central Maine.
Experience Required
Education
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, Business Administration, Golf or Club Management, or a related field preferred.
- Certified Club Manager designation or progress toward certification desirable.
Experience
- Minimum of five years of senior leadership experience as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager, or comparable executive role within a private club, resort, hospitality, or related service organization.
- Demonstrated success leading multi-department operations, including food and beverage, facilities, recreation, and member services.
- Strong financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning experience.

Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Governance
- Execute the strategic direction and policies established by the Board of Governors.
- Advise the Board on operational, financial, capital improvement, and strategic planning matters.
- Attend and participate in Board and committee meetings as an ex-officio member, preparing reports and recommendations as needed.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Board, committees, department leaders, and staff.
- Develop and maintain organizational structures, policies, and operating procedures that support the Club's mission and long-term goals.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Operations Management
- Direct all aspects of Club operations, including golf, tennis, food and beverage, beach, events, facilities, grounds, and member services.
- Ensure exceptional service standards throughout all Club amenities and programs.
- Oversee the maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and appearance of all Club facilities and physical assets.
- Manage purchasing, inventory, vendor relationships, contracts, and operational resources efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
- Respond effectively to emergencies while maintaining a safe environment for members, guests, and employees.
Financial Management
- Develop and administer annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with department managers and the Board.
- Monitor financial performance, cash flow, and key operating metrics.
- Analyze financial results and implement corrective actions when necessary to achieve budget and operational goals.
- Establish appropriate financial controls and purchasing procedures to safeguard Club assets.
Human Resources & Team Leadership
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and evaluate department managers and staff.
- Establish and administer personnel policies, performance standards, and professional development initiatives.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture focused on employee engagement and service excellence.
- Provide leadership in employee relations, conflict resolution, and organizational development.
Membership Experience
- Maintain a visible and approachable presence throughout the Club.
- Welcome new members and actively engage with members and guests to enhance their Club experience.
- Collaborate with department managers to deliver exceptional hospitality, recreational programming, dining experiences, tournaments, and social events.
- Support membership recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives.
- Address member concerns professionally and promptly while promoting the Club's values and Code of Conduct.
Community & External Relations
- Represent Augusta Country Club within the local community and industry organizations.
- Build positive relationships with municipal officials, regulatory agencies, vendors, and business partners.
- Participate in professional development through organizations such as the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) and other relevant associations.
- Monitor industry trends and competitive clubs to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
