Description
The Freedom Center of Oklahoma City is a 501c3 nonprofit organization established in 2019 to educate, empower and enlighten our nation to reflect on the past, present and future of the Civil Rights Movement in Oklahoma.
The Freedom Center of Oklahoma City is both a place and a purpose-driven organization. Founded in 1965 by Clara Luper and the Oklahoma City NAACP Youth Council, it is a sacred site of civic courage and a living symbol of Oklahoma’s role in the national Civil Rights Movement. Today, it serves as steward of the historic Freedom Center building and is preparing to operate the Clara Luper Civil Rights Center (CLCRC), a MAPS 4-funded cultural institution opening in 2027. Truth. Community. A Place to Belong. We are a bridge between legacy and future, rooted in local civil rights history and stepping into a bold new era as a modern educational and cultural institution.
