About the Opportunity
Broder Orland Murray & DeMattie LLC is seeking an experienced Connecticut family law attorney who is looking for more than another lateral move.
We are looking for a lawyer who wants to handle sophisticated matters, assume meaningful responsibility, work directly with experienced partners and clients, and build a long-term practice with a genuine path to partnership.
BOMD is one of Connecticut’s largest firms devoted primarily to matrimonial and family law. We represent clients in complex and high-stakes matters involving closely held businesses, executive compensation, private equity and investment interests, deferred compensation and equity awards, trusts and inherited assets, real estate, business valuation and forensic accounting, as well as significant custody and parenting disputes.
Our lawyers work collaboratively, but associates are not relegated to behind-the-scenes work. The attorney who joins us will play an important role in case strategy, client relationships, negotiation, discovery, courtroom advocacy, and the ultimate resolution of each matter.
Responsibilities
The attorney will:
Manage sophisticated matrimonial and family law matters from initial strategy through settlement or trial.
Represent clients in complex divorce, high-net-worth property division, alimony, child support, custody, parenting, prenuptial and postnuptial agreement, and post-judgment matters.
Work directly with clients, opposing counsel, financial experts, valuation professionals, mental health professionals and other consultants.
Develop case strategy with the firm’s partners and assume increasing responsibility for matters.
Conduct and defend depositions.
Prepare for and appear at hearings, mediations, pretrial conferences and trials throughout Connecticut.
Develop and execute discovery and evidentiary strategies.
Research and draft sophisticated pleadings, motions, briefs, proposed orders, settlement agreements and other substantive work product.
Work closely with attorneys, paralegals and legal assistants as part of a collaborative case team.
Mentor more junior attorneys as experience and responsibility increase.
What We Are Looking For
The strongest candidate will have:
A J.D. and active admission in good standing to the Connecticut Bar.
Approximately 2 or more years of substantial Connecticut matrimonial and family law experience. Exceptional candidates with somewhat different experience levels or relevant litigation backgrounds will also be considered.
Excellent legal writing, research, analytical and advocacy skills.
Meaningful courtroom, deposition or contested-motion experience.
The judgment and confidence to manage sophisticated clients and difficult cases.
Experience with, or a demonstrated ability to understand, complex financial issues such as business valuation, executive compensation, equity interests, trusts, investment assets and forensic accounting.
Experience handling contested custody and parenting matters.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple significant matters simultaneously.
Comfort with modern legal technology
Preferred Experience
Experience with any of the following is helpful, but not required:
Family law appeals.
Interstate or international family law issues.
Complex business or financial litigation.
Relocation matters.
High-conflict custody disputes.
Trials involving expert witnesses.
Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.
Business development or an existing professional network.
Partnership and Long-Term Growth
This position is intended for a lawyer who wants to build a career, not simply occupy an associate role. For the right attorney, there is a genuine opportunity to progress toward partnership.
We are particularly interested in lawyers who want to become leaders in the Connecticut matrimonial bar and are looking for a platform that will provide the experience, responsibility, mentorship, and opportunity to do so.
About BOMD
Our practice is built around sophisticated advocacy, sound judgment, and practical problem-solving. We believe clients are best served by lawyers who understand both the legal and human dimensions of family disputes, communicate clearly, prepare thoroughly, and are equally capable of negotiating a sensible resolution or trying a difficult case when necessary.
We also believe talented lawyers develop fastest when they are trusted with real responsibility, exposed to sophisticated work, and given direct access to experienced attorneys who are invested in their development.
Candidates should submit a résumé and a brief statement describing their experience and interest in the position. All inquiries will be treated confidentially: https://ctfamilylaw.com/family-law-attorney-application/
