Description
his fellowship program is designed for emerging leaders who are inspired by the mission of academic medicine: advancing groundbreaking biomedical research, educating the next generation of physicians and scientists, and supporting exceptional clinical care. Fellows join teams and leaders across WashU Medicine in a range of administrative roles, contributing to the administrative work supporting outstanding faculty while also strengthening the systems and processes that enable the institution to function and evolve in a complex, mission-driven environment. The fellow may also engage in management activities and projects pertaining to strategic partnerships with WashU Medicine’s hospital partners and affiliated healthcare system. Through mentorship, hands-on experience and leadership development, the fellowship prepares individuals to build impactful careers within academic medical centers — equipping them to lead with clarity and purpose. Length of program: Two years Year one During the first year, fellows will: Engage with senior leaders, including: Executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean Vice chancellor for medical finance and administration Vice chancellor for clinical affairs Vice chancellor for research Vice chancellor for medical education Senior associate dean for faculty promotions and career development Vice chancellor of innovation and chief commercialization officer Complete rotations across central administration, basic sciences and clinical departments, with exposure to functions such as: Human resources Finance Faculty Practice Plan and clinical operations Strategic planning Facilities Information technology Research administration and compliance Education, student affairs and curriculum Identify and undertake a project or projects that align with their interests and background and are of significance to the mission of WashU Medicine. Year two During the second year, fellows will select a particular area of focus to hone their skills and take on a management operation role within specific areas of WashU Medicine.
