Position DescriptionSeattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
City Light is looking for three Engineering Aides to join our team of professional engineers. The positions are in Joint Use and Wood Pole Design, located at the South Service Center. In this role, you will perform non-professional engineering support tasks within an engineering office: interpreting engineering documents, calculating costs, field operation, or elementary drafting; performing computations; processing invoices and maintaining and updating work orders for engineering records. This position reports to the Joint Use Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities
Here is more about what you'll be doing:
Support the back-end efforts of four workgroups by:
- Administering, generating, and overseeing Joint Use fines
- Generating and managing transfer notifications (1,200 backlog) through Alden One
- Creating and assigning SCL WAMS asset numbers for new assets and projects
- Conducting Intake, processing and managing engineering as-builts
- Processing and managing ROW permitting applications for several jurisdictions
- Conducting Intake, approving and processing customer applications
- Investigating Alden and WAMS for pole replacement work orders and transfer statuses related to the Double Pole project
- Managing Master Pole Attachment Agreements and maintaining Certificates of Insurance for over 150 Wireline customers
- Compiling and generating billing reports for Accounting, who subsequently issues invoices to Joint Use customers
- Collaborating with Cost Accounting and P&CM to accurately assign invoices to billable work orders
- Issuing permits for Joint Use, ensuring they are officially authorized and compliant with regulations
- Conducting thorough research and taking necessary actions to address and resolve customer complaints effectively
- Creating comprehensive internal and external reports and metrics
- Generating reports to identify work orders ready for closure in WAMS
- Monitoring and addressing Customer Called completes, with a backlog of 9 months on inspections and overdue customer final close-outs from previous years
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Satisfactory completion of high school mathematics including trigonometry (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment.
- Some work is performed in the field including exposure to all types of weather, traffic or hazardous/toxic substances.
- May be required to lift over 50 pounds.
- May be required to stand, walk or bend for extended periods of time.
License, Certification and Other Requirements
- Current State of Washington driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Team-oriented collaborator with a positive demeanor and a keen aspiration to make significant contributions
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Experience supporting engineers with backend aide work
- Ability to work independently under pressure while handling multiple customer requests simultaneously
- Experience in overhead and underground electrical distribution design or related electrical service work is preferred
- Familiarity with CADD programs, work management systems (or equivalents), ROW permits, and MS Office Suites is strongly preferred
- Ability to interpret and apply plans, specifications, work order documents, and asset records effectively

Additional Information
The full salary range for this position is $36.16 to $42.07 per hour.
