The Coordinator: Public Relations is a key member of the firm’s public relations team, who assists in the execution of targeted media relations strategies that enhance the visibility and reputation of specific practices, offices, and lawyers. The coordinator also provides essential support to the Public Relations department, aiding colleagues on a diverse range of projects and initiatives as needed. This energetic and creative individual is instrumental in generating fresh ideas, ensuring the firm’s public relations campaigns remain cutting-edge and impactful.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Support the firm’s PR strategy: Assist in identifying story ideas and securing media interview opportunities; research and identify writing opportunities and appropriate outlets/editors to pitch bylined content; and handle various writing projects, including news releases, media briefing documents, nominations, etc.
- Monitor daily media coverage of firm, its practices, and lawyers
- Compile weekly Media Coverage Report for management and other internal audiences
- Lead the development of quarterly media reports for the firm to be shared with the Management Committee
- Develop relationships with local, trade, and national media
- Build and maintain department media lists
- Monitor editorial calendars and identify relevant PR opportunities, including nominations for legal, trade, and business publications
- Assist in social media content creation
- Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet firm goals and objectives
Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes
Education/Training/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. English, communications, journalism, or other writing focused major strongly preferred
Professional Experience:
- Minimum three years required. Prior law firm or PR agency experience preferred
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Must be able to access and use online and electronic newswire services, media tracking services and internet research resources
- Proficient and accurate typing skills
- Knowledge of social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, and TikTok)
Performance Traits:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (grammar/spelling/proofreading/tone)
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, manage multiple projects, and adapt to shifting priorities under tight deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills – must be able to work in a collegial team environment and communicate tactfully with all internal staff and outside contacts
- Enthusiastic self-starter with eagerness to work independently
- Exercise solid strategic thinking and problem-solving skills and able to anticipate needs
Physical Requirements:
- May require occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
