The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the strategic financial leader of a forward-thinking municipal utility that uses its generation assets to aggressively position itself for growth and the evolution of our industry. The CFO is responsible for ensuring long-term financial sustainability, rate competitiveness, and stewardship of public resources. This position is a leadership role with real impact on company performance and community growth. The CFO directs all financial operations, including budgeting, financial planning, rate design, capital financing, debt management, and regulator compliance, while supporting reliable and cost-effective service to customers.

Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and control the accounting, finance, and auditing functions in accordance with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) guidelines.
- Develop and track key financial and operational metrics, benchmarking performance to ensure competitiveness, transparency, and responsible stewardship of public resources.
- Identify risks and implement system-based solutions to mitigate those risks for the protection of the utility and its customers.
- Perform retail and wholesale rate analysis to create rate structure proposals to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Board of Directors.
- Research and develop revenue and expense forecasts; prepare and submit the company-wide operating and capital budget.
- Assist the CEO to create and manage financial strategies, recommend corrective actions, create financial opportunities, and advance business development within the utility’s service territory.
Team Leadership
Our Chief Finance Officer will collaborate with our CEO, board of directors, team members and partners to assist in developing creative business ideas, execute plans, and measure success. This role requires someone who possesses strong decision-making and leadership skills, with a demonstrated ability to effectively exercise supervisory authority, train and evaluate subordinates, and build a strong financial team.
Compliance
Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, FERC guidelines, the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, and the Financial Accounting Standards Board.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
- Advanced degree or CPA (desirable)
- 10+ years of professional experience with at least four years of supervisory experience.
- Experience in municipal, cooperative, or regulated utility environments (preferred).
