About the Position
The City of Bristol, VA is seeking a dedicated Chief Financial Officer to join in our efforts in supporting the daily operation of local City government.
This position reports to the City Manager and is responsible for overseeing the City’s financial transactions. The CFO has direct supervision of the accounting staff which includes Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounting, and Purchasing. Directly responsible for internal controls and audit compliance. Serves as Budget Director for the City. Also responsible for strategic financial planning, financial accounting and reporting and debt issuance and management.

Essential Functions
- Work with finance and procurement staff to plan, coordinate, and monitor the activities of accounts payable, procurement, payroll, and accounting;
- Serves as budget director for the City;
- Assure compliance with appropriate federal, state, and municipal laws governing financial reporting for governmental entities;

About The Department
The City of Bristol's Finance Department is a growing team made up of 8 full-time employees.
The department is a fast-paced operation that is responsible for accounts payable, payroll processing, general accounting, and procurement.
Minimum and Additional Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in business, accounting, finance, or related field
- Strong leadership skills including demonstrated supervisory experience in the successful use of technology to enhance financial performance and experience in a high level of concise, accurate communication with elected and appointed officials and staff are imperative.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) designation
- Governmental accounting experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience working in accounting, finance, or auditing

Anticipated hiring range for this position is $110,987 - $133,462 DOQ/DOE based on qualifications and experience.
