ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY
TARGET ENTRY SALARY: $96,369 - $125,283 DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS
SENIOR ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY
TARGET ENTRY SALARY: $117,137 - $152,279 DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS
Real Estate (1 Position)The City of Clearwater Legal Department is seeking an attorney to perform a variety of professional level duties and responsibilities involving the delivery of legal services of varying complexity. Legal services include direct assistance to the City Attorney on special projects or assignments. Work involves the review and/or preparation of legal documents, the preparation of legal opinions, and the preparation and review of resolutions, ordinances, and other proposed legislation. Preferred responsibilities include the purchase and sale of real estate, representation of the city on the Code Enforcement Board, and construction related matters.
Labor and Employment (1 Position)
The City of Clearwater Legal Department is seeking an attorney to perform a variety of professional level duties and responsibilities involving the delivery of legal services of varying complexity. Legal services include direct assistance to the City Attorney on special projects or assignments. Work involves the review and/or preparation of legal documents, the preparation of legal opinions, and the preparation and review of resolutions, ordinances, and other proposed legislation. Preferred responsibilities include labor and employment matters, collective bargaining, and litigation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant City Attorney:
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
Possession of a State of Florida license as a practicing attorney and admission to the Florida Bar.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor Degree or equivalent with admission to the Florida Bar, PLUS some training, education or experience in public sector, particularly at the local government level, In desired. Experience as a law clerk, research assistant, or legal assistant is also desirable.
Senior Assistant City Attorney:
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
Possession of a State of Florida license as a practicing attorney and admission to the Florida Bar.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor Degree or equivalent with admission to the Florida Bar PLUS Five (5) years of professional experience as an attorney in the public sector, particularly at the local government level OR an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Supplemental Information:
Knowledge of –
- Modern legal office practices, procedures, and application of law and procedures.
- Constitutional Law, Sunshine Law and Public Records Law, and general municipal law among other areas.
- Operations, management, and overall function of the Attorney's Office.
- Legal research and legal software.
- Federal and Florida laws, local legislation, and administrative law.
- Office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Record keeping, report preparation, filing methods, and records.
- General office policies and procedures; computers and general office equipment.
Demonstrated Skill in –
- Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.
- Completing tasks given both orally and in writing.
- Conducting research and coordinating assigned projects.
- Drafting legal instruments, proposed legislation, and legal opinions.
- Assembling and evaluating technical and operational data relating to the department.

- Establishing and maintaining strong office relationships.
- Operating a computer and related software.
