This health center receives HHS funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.
Company History
In the 1970s, Chicago’s south and southeast sides—now served by Chicago Family Health Center (CFHC)—were powered by the steel industry. When that industry collapsed, over 43,000 residents lost their jobs, and many businesses and healthcare providers left the area. Recognizing the urgent need for care, the Claretian priests of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church partnered with local residents and stakeholders to create a much-needed health safety net.
In 1977, they opened the Claretian Medical Center at 91st and Commercial Avenue with just four employees, serving 400 patients in its first year. Renamed Chicago Family Health Center in 1998 to reflect its broader community mission, CFHC now operates six health centers, employs over 200 staff, and provides care to more than 30,000 patients each year.
