Job Description
Job Summary:
The Communications Manager plays a central role in the Center for Digital Thriving's communications strategy and execution by managing day-to-day content production, coordination, and publishing across platforms. In consultation with the Strategy & Engagement Director, this position is responsible for translating the Center's research, resources, and programs into clear, compelling, and timely communications that reach educators, researchers, and partners. The role leads web, email, and social communications; coordinates workflows and timelines for campaigns and grant-related deliverables; and ensures consistency in voice, tone, and visual identity as set by the Strategy & Engagement Director. This position represents a significant increase in execution and strategic capacity, alleviating delivery bottlenecks, supporting on-time grant deliverables, informing strategic decisions, and extending communications capacity.
Specifically, the Communications Manager will:
- Set and manage communications workflows and project timelines: Sets and manages timelines, deliverables, and approvals across multiple communications projects; tracks progress using content calendars and project plans; follows up on next steps; and flags risks or bottlenecks to keep projects moving.
- Create, edit, and publish content across platforms: Drafts, edits, and publishes content for web, email, and social platforms (including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Bluesky) with support from the Strategy & Engagement Director; translates research and ideas into accessible language for educators and partners; creates branded visuals using Canva; and supports updates to website content.
- Leads campaign execution and audience engagement: In consultation with the Strategy & Engagement Director, leads communications campaign execution tied to research releases, resources, programs, and events; assists with audience engagement by monitoring responses and messages; coordinates with internal partners to ensure accuracy and timeliness; and tracks basic engagement metrics to inform iteration.
- Ensure brand stewardship and collaborative production: Maintains consistency in voice, tone, and visual identity across channels as set with the Strategy & Engagement Director; applies CDT brand guidelines; collaborates closely with leadership and cross-functional partners; and contributes to shared systems, templates, and processes that improve communications efficiency over time.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, marketing, education, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Three or more years of related experience. The role requires strong writing and editing skills, experience managing content across digital platforms, familiarity with project coordination tools, and experience creating visual assets using Canva.
This is a term position with an end date of 12/31/26 with possibility of continuation.

Work Format Details
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University's Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
