Description

Description

The Department of Engineering in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences at Boston College invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in the areas of environmental engineering and/or energy engineering at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. In exceptional cases, appointment at a higher rank may be considered. We are particularly interested in building expertise in technologies and systems in the areas of water, wastewater, water treatment and supply, and renewable energy. The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2022.

The Department

Launched in Fall 2021, the Department of Engineering offers a Human-Centered Engineering major (B.S. in Engineering). The program positions students to tackle the technological, human, and societal dimensions of major global challenges in health, energy, and the environment by integrating Boston College’s liberal arts foundation, engineering science and fundamentals, entrepreneurial practices, design and systems thinking, and service-oriented project experiences. Our goal is to prepare students to become engineers for a better world. Anchored in a human-centered approach, engineering study at Boston College is bolstered by a global viewpoint, ethical underpinnings, and distinctive project-based experiences that address real-world challenges. More information about the Department can be found here: https://www.bc.edu/bc-web/schools/mcas/departments/engineering.

The Department of Engineering is committed to student growth and formative education. Candidates should be enthusiastic about innovative and student-centered learning. In addition, candidates are expected to contribute to the creative work of building a new department and academic program. Successful candidates will join an internationally recognized faculty with a strong commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community that advances the frontiers of engineering research in health, energy, and the environment. In their application, candidates should include evidence of outstanding scholarship and the ability to establish and pursue a program of high-quality research that will enable cross-campus collaborations with departments and schools across the university.

The Department of Engineering is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all dimensions—including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, and military status—and believes that exposure to a diversity of people, cultures, and ideas promotes new experiences and approaches, and expands our perspectives. We aim to foster a diverse faculty with a broad range of interests, abilities, life experiences, and worldviews to enhance BC’s academic mission. Successful candidates will demonstrate evidence of a commitment to equity and inclusion. Financial and other resources are available to support activities that help accelerate efforts to achieve our equity and inclusion goals, with the full backing of the university.
