Position Summary

The Director, Digital Marketing and Communications, is charged with managing and expanding Michelson Philanthropies’ online presence and extending its reach to diverse audiences in compelling and strategic ways; envisioning the future of digital media and technology use for the organization.

The Director, Digital Marketing and Communications, sets policy for, develops, oversees, and manages public-facing and content-driven technologies, as well as creative multimedia initiatives and content across multiple platforms, which include but are not limited to Michelson Philanthropies' websites, social media channels, and mobile experiences. The Director, Digital Marketing and Communications, also leads the development, production, and distribution of content in these areas, including image, audio, and video content. 

This position will report to the Sr. Director, Communications/Chief Marketing Officer and supervise a Digital Marketing Manager as well as independent contractors and vendors. As a member of the Marketing and Communications team, this position will work alongside others who bring the same passion to advancing the long-standing legacy we’ve established over the last 25 years and launch into new journeys along the way. 

Responsibilities

The Director, Digital Marketing and Communications, will be responsible for performing the below tasks. While these are the core duties for this role, the Director, Digital Marketing and Communications, is not limited to only performing what is captured here; we think growth is good. You should too!

  • Manage the design, build, deployment and maintenance of email campaigns.
  • Manage all social media channels for Michelson Philanthropies, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Youtube.Develop digital strategies across our Michelson Philanthropies brands.
  • Drive traffic to all of our websites, ensuring growth and optimizing key metrics. 
  • Work with our IT team and agency in website design and development, as well as managing updates through Wordpress and other technologies.
  • Copy writing/editing, as needed.
  • Work closely with Program Managers to drive traffic to events and initiative
  • Analyze and report on metrics (ROI and KPIs).
  • Ensure brand consistency across all platforms and channels.


Requirements

You’ve gotta have:

Successful candidates for this role will have a mix of the below experience, education, and skills. We are flexible in considering your background but want to ensure that you have the tools to thrive! Please review and make sure that your skill set aligns with:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in digital marketing with 2-5 years of management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications and/or related field or equivalent work experience in communications or media relations and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Successful management of digital channels as well as tactical execution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications and/or related field or equivalent work experience in communications or media relations and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position. 
  • Experience with email marketing, including segmentation, A/B and multivariate testing, attribution models, SEO/SEM, paid media, content marketing, affiliate marketing and other partnerships.
  • Have working knowledge of PPC ad bid management tools, including Google Adwords and Display Networks, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript development and constraints
  • Proficient with Google Analytics. 
  • Data-driven and curious.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Collaborative leader,  enthusiastic mentor and team player.
  • Strategic and thoughtful, able to keep the big picture in mind while taking care of the day to day.

  • Sincere commitment to working collaboratively with multiple stakeholder groups, including staff, advocates, partners, program participants, and other supporters. 
  • Proven history of developing and implementing strategic digital marketing plans with a results-oriented mindset with deadlines and deliverables as your mantra. You love ALL the acronyms: KPIs, OKRs and SMART goals.
  • Strong track record as an implementer who can manage multiple concurrent projects. 
  • Be a self-starter. Love driving ideas and projects forward! There’s no challenge you’ve met yet that you haven’t figured out.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks frequently within short timelines, to prioritize and organize work, and to complete assignments in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Have experience working in a highly fast-paced, fluid environment, can pivot easily and capable of making decisions with minimal guidance.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication and planning skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
