Senior Survey Technician Thomas & Hutton is a growing, well-established professional services firm providing consulting services throughout the southeast. Some of our many services include Civil, Environmental, Structural and Marine Engineering; Land Surveying; Land Planning; Landscape Architecture; Geographic Information Systems and Construction Administration. Thomas & Hutton has an opening for a Senior Land Survey Technician to join our Survey Department in Nashville, TN. Land Surveying field and office experience, as well as the knowledge and ability to work independently in the preparation of plats, maps, and legal descriptions using Civil3D is required, along with previous experience preparing ALTA, as-built, boundary, subdivision, and topographic surveys in compliance with applicable standards. Experience working with Robotic Total Stations and GNSS is required, and experience with LiDAR and UAV is a plus. Minimum Requirements: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, or related field, and/or NSPS Survey Certification/s are preferred, however, high quality experience and on the job training is certainly valued. Experience: 10+ years of well-balanced overall surveying experience which includes a minimum of 5 years in either field or office. Skills:- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MS Office (Carlson is a plus).
- Knowledge of surveying practices and procedures (Field & Office).
- Ability to work 7:30AM 5:30PM Mon-Thurs and 7:30AM 11:30AM Friday with occasional overtime.
- Ability to research, read, and interpret deeds, easements, maps, plans, and plats.
- Ability to create field search plans from recorded documents, plats, and previous surveys.
- Ability to coordinate and direct field crews for the location of boundary evidence.
- Ability to coordinate and direct field crews for the location of topographic and utility features.
- Ability to produce preliminary boundary resolutions for professional review.
- Ability to prepare survey maps and legal descriptions for professional review.
- Ability to perfect subdivision linework from site plans and prepare plats for professional review.
- Ability to create stake-out plans from subdivision plats and survey maps.
- Ability to coordinate and direct field crews for setting boundary and lot corners.
- Ability to create stake-out plans from construction drawings.
- Ability to coordinate and direct field crews for construction stake-out.
- Ability to identify boundary evidence and topographic features in the field and in imagery.
- Ability to communicate with clients, engineers, government officials, stakeholders, etc.
- Experience and willingness to work in the field or office as required.*
- Must be able to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Ability to work outdoors with the likelihood of encountering insects, snakes, wildlife, etc.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work in a wide range of temperatures.
- Ability to climb hills and walk long distances.
- Ability to traverse widely varying types of terrain.
- Ability to function in both rural and urban environments.
- Ability to lift and carry surveying equipment, instruments, supplies, and tools.
- Ability to personally interact with people in the field, in meeting rooms, and in the office.
