Overview
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Land Design Manager to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team delivering innovative ecological design solutions for land restoration and conservation projects. This role bridges design and construction, ensuring seamless transitions from concept through implementation while solving realworld field challenges.
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in environmental land design and ecology with strong leadership, collaboration, and project management skills to deliver highquality, resilient, and sustainable outcomes.
A Day in the Life
No two days are the same. As a Senior Environmental Land Design Manager, you’ll balance strategic leadership with handson technical work. Your day may include:
Reviewing project schedules and aligning design team priorities
Coordinating with Entitlement staff on project designs and supporting documentation
Providing technical guidance on design development, QA/QC, construction planning, and timelines
Mentoring team members through goal setting, professional development, and shared project ownership
Conducting desktop site analysis using field and online data in Civil 3D and GIS
Visiting project sites to troubleshoot unforeseen challenges and ensure design integrity during construction
Managing project budgets, timelines, and deliverables
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership
Develop and oversee ecological restoration designs, including seasonal wetlands, floodplains, tidal marshes, and other habitat types
Collaborate with Entitlement, Ecology, Land Stewardship teams, and Contractors to deliver ecologically robust solutions
Environmental Construction Oversight & Troubleshooting
Oversee construction bidding, contracting, and execution
Provide technical guidance during implementation and resolve field issues to maintain design intent, schedules, and budgets
Team Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and support designers and technical staff
Serve as the design QA/QC lead for project designs, reports, construction documents, and constructionphase issues
Allocate resources effectively across projects while ensuring schedule and budget adherence
Project Management & Client Relations
Lead projects from concept through construction while maintaining regulatory compliance and ecological quality
Build strong working relationships with consultants, agency staff, and clients and deliver exceptional service
Technical Expertise
Apply deep understanding of restoration design principles and California habitats
Integrate ecological science with practical, resilient design solutions
Support site analysis and preplanning activities including soils analysis, hydrology review, erosion control, and land grading

Requirements
Qualifications
Required
10+ years of experience in ecological design, environmental restoration, or a related discipline
Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental Design, Environmental Planning & Design, or a related field (preferred)
4+ years of people management experience with a collaborative, supportive leadership style
Proficiency in Civil 3D, GIS, and related design tools
General knowledge of California native plants and habitat assemblages
Proven success in project management, team leadership, and client engagement
Strong communication, problemsolving, and organizational skills
Preferred
Professional licensure (PLA, PE) or equivalent experience
Experience with largescale restoration or conservation projects
Knowledge of permitting processes and environmental regulations
Understanding of mitigation projects
QSD and/or QSP certification
Pay range $139,000-165,000 plus annual bonus potential, medical, dental, vision insurance, 401k with match, vacation, holiday and sick pay.
