Description
As a key member of the Legal, Risk & Compliance team, the Senior Director, Employment Attorney will lead employment law strategy and execution across a global, dynamic and fast-paced organization at the intersection of finance, technology, and data-driven solutions. This role will provide expert legal counsel on all employment-related matters, partnering closely with Human Resources, executive leadership, and business units to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and support a high-performance, inclusive workplace culture across a global footprint.
- Serve as the primary legal advisor on all employment law matters, including hiring, performance management, terminations, compensation, benefits, workplace investigations, and employee relations.
- Manage and oversee the development, enforcement, and compliance of employment-related legal instruments (such as restrictive covenants and non-compete agreements) ensuring alignment with applicable regional, federal and state laws. Provide strategic legal guidance on the drafting, negotiation, and defense of such agreements to protect the company’s proprietary interests.
- Provide expert legal counsel on employee benefits and retirement plans in accordance with ERISA regulations, ensuring plan documentation, fiduciary responsibilities, and reporting requirements are met.
- Advise on HIPAA compliance, particularly in relation to employee health plans and the handling of protected health information (PHI), including privacy policies, breach response protocols, and training initiatives.
- Guide workplace safety compliance under OSHA standards, including risk assessments, policy development, incident response, and regulatory reporting. Lead the administration and resolution of workers’ compensation claims in coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel, ensuring timely reporting, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective claim management.
- Advise on employment issues related to remote and hybrid workforces, cross-border employment, and contractor/vendor relationships in a tech-enabled environment.
- Partner with HR and leadership to design and implement scalable policies are that aligned with regulatory requirements (e.g. ERISA, HIPAA Compliance, Data Privacy & Protection)
- Manage employment litigation, arbitration, and administrative proceedings, including agency complaints and audits (e.g., EEOC, DOL, OFCCP) and legal matters, ensuring successful defense of organizational practices and negotiating outcomes in the company’s favor.
Provide legal support for M&A transactions, including due diligence, organizational design, integration planning, and post-close employment matters. - Monitor and interpret evolving employment laws and regulations ensuring proactive compliance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders on workforce strategy, including organizational restructuring, talent mobility, and international expansion.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders on internal investigations providing guidance for legally sound decision making. Conduct investigations with legal exposure.
- Lead and mentor Legal, Risk & Compliance team members and cross-functional partners on employment law best practices.
Create and lead a centralized Legal, Risk & Compliance Community of Practice (COP) to manage global employee legal matters, ensuring consistent practices, scalable solutions, and alignment with local laws.
Requirements
- 10+ years of employment law experience, ideally including in-house counsel roles within financial services, fintech, or technology-driven companies.
- Background in managing employment-related aspects of corporate transactions.
- Experience advising Corporate Secretary on executive compensation matters for public companies
- Experience providing legal support for M&A transactions, including due diligence, organizational design, integration planning, and post-close employment matters.
- Experince preparing and reviewing proxy disclosures and SEC filings
- Experience drafting, negotiating, and enforcing noncompete agreements for executives
- Deep knowledge of U.S. federal and state employment laws; demonstrated expertise in international employment law, with the ability to navigate complex cross-border legal frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate complex, high-growth environments with sound judgment and business acumen.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Experience supporting a distributed or global workforce.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Pay Scale Information :
The U.S. base salary range for this position is $187,500.00 - $312,500 annually. *The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. At TransUnion, actual compensation is based on careful consideration of additional factors such as (but not limited to) an individual’s education, training, work experience, job-related skill set, location, and industry knowledge, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position and market considerations.
- This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week
