Job SummaryStudent Affairs shapes nearly every dimension of the student experience at RIT, and the Senior Director Student Affairs Financial Planning and Business Operations ensures the division has the financial strength, operational clarity, and workforce strategy to deliver on that mission. Sitting at the center of the division's strategic and operational infrastructure, the Senior Director guides how resources, talent, and investments are aligned to advance divisional priorities and sustain long-term impact.
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, the Senior Director serves as the division's chief financial and operational strategist and a trusted advisor to senior leadership. The role oversees a complex financial portfolio that includes more than $43 million in annual expenses, $16 million in revenue, and $5 million in gift, endowment, and capital equipment balances, ensuring disciplined stewardship, transparency, and alignment with institutional goals. Through multi-year financial planning, forecasting, and analysis, the Senior Director translates strategy into actionable financial and operational plans that position the division to grow, adapt, and invest where it matters most.
Beyond financial leadership, the Senior Director plays a central role in shaping the division's organizational capacity, guiding workforce planning, compensation strategy, and resource allocation across more than 300 staff positions. By leading the division's financial infrastructure and business operations, strengthening systems and processes, and serving as the primary liaison to university finance and human resource functions, the Senior Director enables sound decision-making, operational efficiency, and institutional accountability.
Job Responsibilities
Oversees and directs the business, administrative, facilities, and financial operations of an assigned area of responsibility. Ensures all operations are executed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with RIT policies, procedures, and regulations. Provides fiscal management of financial resources of assigned area, including the preparation and monitoring of budgets, accounting and financial analyses, and reporting. Develops and implements strategic plans to ensure operations are in alignment with unit objectives and RIT's strategic goals. Guides the business, facilities, and administrative operations of assigned unit including human resources, staffing, scheduling, payroll, purchasing, and inventory management. Guides the business and administrative activities for area of authority related to human resources, staffing, scheduling, payroll, purchasing, and inventory management. Ensures operations of assigned area are performed according to organizational policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable regulations. Evaluates unit operations and implements processes to enhance and optimize workflows and mitigate risk.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops and implements strategic plans to align operations with RIT's strategic goals and operational objectives
- Provides comprehensive fiscal management, including budget preparation, monitoring, financial analysis, and reporting
- Ensures that all business and administrative operations comply with university policies and applicable regulations
- Oversees human resources activities including staffing, scheduling, payroll, and benefits administration within the unit
- Guides purchasing decisions and inventory management processes to ensure resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Evaluates unit operations to enhance workflows, implement process improvements, and mitigate risks
- Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field
10 years of relevant experience
Equivalent combination of experience & education may be considered
Preferred Qualifications
MBA or MS in Accounting or related field
