This position is covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. Prior to being hired, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training.
SUMMARY:
Responsible for the financial oversight, cost tracking, and accounting compliance of PNM¿s capital investment portfolio. This position ensures accurate financial reporting, budget adherence, and regulatory compliance for capital projects. The analyst collaborates with project managers and accounting teams to provide financial insights.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor and analyze capital project budgets, forecasts, and actual expenditures.
Develop and maintain financial models to support capital planning.
Track project cost performance and identify variances, trends, and risks.
Support development of long-term capital plans and annual budgets.
Ensure capital expenditures are recorded in accordance with GAAP, FERC, and internal policies.
Collaborate with accounting for asset capitalization, depreciation, and retirement.
Assist in internal and external audits as requested.
Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on capital spending.
Provide variance analysis and commentary for leadership and regulatory filings.
Support regulatory reporting, including rate case preparation.
Partner with project managers to review cost estimates and forecasts.
Liaise with procurement and contract management for financial alignment.
Communicate financial impacts of project changes.
Maintain and enhance financial systems for capital tracking.
Identify process improvement opportunities.
Support ERP or capital management system implementations.
Participate in special projects as assigned.
COMPETENCIES:
Strong understanding of capital accounting principles (GAAP, FERC).
Experience with ERP systems (Power Plan, Maximo, Copperleaf, Oracle etc.) and financial reporting tools.
Detail-oriented and highly organized.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 5+ years of experience in accounting or financial analysis, preferably in a utility or capital-intensive industry.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
CPA or CMA certification preferred
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
Requires strong analytical skills to interpret complex financial data, evaluate project performance, identify cost variances, and recommend corrective actions. Must be able to synthesize information from multiple sources and present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
DECISION MAKING:
Empowered to make routine decisions regarding cost tracking, reporting, and compliance within established guidelines. Independent judgment is required for variance analysis, process improvements, and recommendations to management.
SCOPE AND IMPACT:
Responsible for the financial oversight of capital projects. Ensures compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, directly impacting the company's financial statements and regulatory filings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Primarily office-based with standard working hours. Occasional overtime may be required during reporting periods. Minimal travel required. No unusual physical requirements.
NOTE: Employees in Services Company may be responsible for providing services to various Holding Company subsidiaries and affiliates.
