Salary: Competitive + vehicle allowance + full benefits
We are expanding our UK Marine & Transportation Surveying team and are seeking a Goods in Transit (GIT) / Marine Cargo Surveyor to manage investigations across the cargo, logistics and supply‑chain environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives on problem‑solving, enjoys field‑based technical work, and wants to build a long-term career in marine cargo and logistics loss adjusting.
About the Role:
As a GIT / Marine Cargo Surveyor, you will be the first point of technical expertise when cargo is reported damaged, lost, or deteriorated in transit. You'll attend ports, warehouses, hauliers' yards, distribution centres, and client sites to investigate:
- Physical cargo damage
- Load securing failures
- Temperature deviations
- Contamination or moisture issues
- Handling or stowage concerns
- Shortage or theft indicators
- Goods affected during road, rail or sea transit
Your work will involve gathering evidence, identifying causation, assessing liability, advising on mitigation, and producing clear, concise survey reports for insurers, brokers, shippers, and logistics stakeholders.
No two days are the same-one day you may be assessing a temperature‑controlled food consignment, the next a shipment of steel, project cargo, automotive components, or consumer goods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend survey locations across the region (and wider UK when required)
- Investigate cargo loss, damage, deterioration, or shortage
- Determine cause of loss and advise on mitigation/salvage options
- Collect evidence: photos, statements, temperatures, data logs, documentation
- Assess packaging, load security, stowage, and handling practices
- Liaise with logistics providers, hauliers, ports, insurers, and policyholders
- Produce high‑quality technical survey reports within agreed timescales
- Represent the company professionally and support positive client relationships
What We're Looking For:
Essential:
- Full UK driving licence (frequent travel required)
- Experience in marine cargo, goods in transit, logistics, or transport operations
- Strong investigative and analytical abilities
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage your own caseload and work independently
- A practical, hands‑on mindset with attention to detail
Desirable:
- Knowledge of reefer/temperature‑controlled supply chains
- Experience with steel, bulk, project, machinery, or automotive cargoes
- Background in logistics, warehousing, freight forwarding, or insurance
- Prior surveying or adjusting experience (not essential - training provided)
What you'll get:
- Competitive salary taking into account skills, experience, and qualifications.
- Fully funded company vehicle or cash in lieu allowance
- Pension Plan
- You will join an appropriate incentive (bonus) scheme.
- Holiday allowance of 25 days plus bank holidays.
- Flexible working from our office or your home.
Health & support
- Private healthcare plan (including pre-existing conditions).
- Life assurance.
- Employee assistance programme for employee wellbeing.
- Group Income Protection.
Other benefits
- Voluntary benefits - dental cover, cycle to work scheme, season ticket loan, wellbeing and digital GP applications.
- Discounts on various products and services.
