We have an opportunity to impact your career and provide an adventure where you can push the limits of what's possible.As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer and Community Banking - NBA Delivery Platform team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.
Job responsibilities
- Leads the design, development, and evolution of a highly scalable, reliable GraphQL platform with exceptional performance and high availability across multiple teams and services.
- Drives platform strategy and technical roadmap, making design decisions that balance current needs with long-term scalability and maintainability.
- Establishes and champions observability, monitoring, and alerting standards across the platform, designing proactive solutions to detect and resolve issues before they impact users.
- Leads the development of automation strategies for CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices, creating reusable patterns and frameworks that accelerate delivery across engineering teams.
- Designs and oversees intuitive self-service developer experiences, including APIs, tooling, documentation, and integration patterns that enable teams to adopt platform services independently.
- Mentors and guides engineers across the organization, conducting technical reviews, providing architectural guidance, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
- Drives continuous improvement in platform reliability, performance, and developer productivity through metrics-driven insights and innovation.
- Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
- Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
- Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
- Adds to team culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience
- Proven leadership experience in mentoring engineers, leading technical initiatives, and driving architectural decisions across teams.
- Advanced in one or more programming language(s) in scripting and automation using Typescript, Go, Rust, Python, or similar languages.
- Deep hands-on experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices for managing complex, multi-environment infrastructure.
- Advanced knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes, and service mesh architectures.
- Strong expertise in GraphQL architecture, schema design, and RESTful API principles, with experience designing and implementing API standards and strong architectural thinking, with proven ability to decompose complex problems, evaluate trade-offs, and make pragmatic technical decisions.
- Extensive experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and deployment strategies.
- Expert-level proficiency with version control workflows (Git/Bitbucket) and distributed systems monitoring using tools such as Splunk, DataDog, Dynatrace, or CloudWatch.
- Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
- Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
- In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Production experience architecting, building, and scaling GraphQL platforms serving multiple teams or business units.
- Extensive experience with AWS cloud architecture and services, including architectural patterns for high availability and disaster recovery.
- Advanced knowledge of AWS services including EKS, ECS Fargate, IAM, VPC design, CloudWatch, X-Ray, ElastiCache-Redis, RDS Aurora Postgres, MSK, and KMS.
- Preferred proficiency in at least one of the following modern programming language (Java, Bash, Groovy, or similar), with ability to review code and provide technical guidance.
- Proven track record designing and implementing comprehensive observability solutions (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting) and automating complex CI/CD workflows using Jenkins, Spinnaker, or similar platforms.
- Experience with GraphQL Federation, schema governance, entity resolution, distributed architecture patterns, and developer tooling ecosystems.
- Experience leading platform migrations, large-scale refactoring efforts, or greenfield platform initiatives.
