The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT) is now accepting applications for exciting Landscape Architecture/Landscape Design professional engineering paid internship roles (Seasonal Worker) in the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Division of Highway Design, Landscape Design Unit.
The Landscape Design Unit incorporates landscape components, community features, pedestrian areas, and sustainable design elements into a wide range of transportation projects. The Unit oversees projects from design to construction, utilizing tools including CAD, visualization software, and drone technology. The Landscape Design Unit plays an important role in the development of context-sensitive transportation projects throughout Connecticut. Landscape Architecture Summer Intern positions are full-time, in the Newington, CT office Monday through Friday and include field work on construction sites and highway/roadway environments.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Anticipated start date in May of 2026 and ending by August 31, 2026
Monday-Friday, first shift
8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, temporary (not eligible for benefits or paid holidays)
Location: based in Newington, CT
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS ROLE
A driver's license is required
Enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Landscape Architecture and completing sophomore year (minimum) by May 2026

ABOUT THE ROLE
Interns will work under the supervision of licensed Landscape Architects and gain exposure to the Connecticut DOT's project development and implementation process. Computer applications used may include MicroStation, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and other applications. In addition to the Landscape Design Unit staff, interns will interact with Environmental Planners, Highway and Bridge designers, and Civil Engineers. Interns will work both in the field and in the office at our Headquarters in Newington, CT.
Duties of a Landscape Architecture Seasonal Worker will include:
Preparing the landscape design components of transportation projects including development of planting designs, specifications, and construction details for contract plans
Participating in field work with the Landscape Design Unit staff
Developing CAD generated landscape plans and details
Producing visual graphics
Assisting in other project development and management tasks
