Position Title: Interior Design (Open Rank, Tenure-Track)
Position Summary:
The Central Michigan University College of Education & Human Services is seeking to hire a highly qualified full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty in the dual-accredited undergraduate Interior Design program, with an anticipated start date of August 24, 2026. The position will require teaching undergraduate courses in interior design with expertise in one of the following specialty areas:
Industry-standard software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
Design Processes, involving both application and documentation, encompassing the integration of creativity, functional analysis, building systems, and problem-solving within human-centered design studio classes, e.g., special user groups, hospitality, and mixed-use design.
The successful candidate is expected to consistently uphold research endeavors throughout their career. The candidate will participate in activities such as curriculum development; advising undergraduate students; providing service to the department, college, university and community; as well as maintaining accreditation standards for CIDA and NASAD.
Required Qualifications:
Terminal degree (Ph.D., M.F.A., M. Arch., or equivalent) with at least one graduate degree in Interior Design or a related field is required at the time employment begins; ABD and postgraduate candidates will be considered for the rank of Assistant Professor, however, first reappointment will be contingent upon degree completion.
NCIDQ certification or progress towards completion within one year.
Evidence of teaching experience.
Experience with and competency in industry-standard software.
Evidence of excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication in English.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of college-level teaching effectiveness.
Evidence of successful scholarly and creatively activities.
Competency in industry-standard software Revit and AutoCAD.
WELL AP, LEED AP, AAHID, CAPS certification or other professional certifications.
Previous experience in interior design professional practice.
Demonstrated effective undergraduate advising.
Affiliation with professional organizations in the discipline.

The Department of Fashion, Interior Design and Merchandising offers a B.A., B.S. or B.A.A. in Interior Design. The Interior Design program serves approximately 100 majors and minors. The program has a history of strong internship placement, as well as opportunities for study abroad every other year.
