- Human Resources Generalist
Description
MacDonald Training Center (MTC) is seeking an experienced HR Generalist who supports the day-to-day operations of the HR department and plays a key role in fostering a positive, people-first workplace. Working closely with the CHRO, this position is responsible for a wide range of HR functions including employment, onboarding, benefits administration, compliance, employee support, and HR systems management. This role is ideal for an organized, detail-oriented professional who enjoys a hands-on environment and values mission-driven work.
Employee Support & Culture
- Serve as a welcoming and accessible resource for employees, providing guidance and support.
- Promote a positive, people-first culture that supports employee engagement and satisfaction.
- Assist with employee events, wellness initiatives, and recognition programs
Onboarding
- Coordinate background screenings and reference checks.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure smooth employee experience.
- Serve as point of contact for new hires, interns, volunteers and contractors.
- Manage ID badge assignments and ensure proper tracking of equipment.
Benefits & Leave Administration
- Administer employee benefits including enrollment, changes, and inquiries.
- Manage leave of absence programs including FMLA, short-term and long-term disability, and workers’ compensation.
- Coordination and renewal of organizational insurance programs, including general liability, cyber liability, residential, and other coverage, ensuring timely processing and accurate documentation.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment, health & wellness fair, and benefits reconciliation processes.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records within the HRIS (Paylocity) or external files.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws, including I-9 requirements and retention.
- Support reporting requirements.
- Assist with audits and ensure proper documentation and file integrity.
HR Systems & Payroll Support
- Process employee changes and maintain data accuracy in HR systems.
- Review payroll registers for accuracy and assist with benefit and retirement plan reconciliations.
Training & Safety
- Track and ensure completion of required industry/service training and certifications.
- Coordinate required training.
- Track and ensure compliance with required driver’s documents.
- Participate in safety initiatives and support compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Collaboration & Projects
- Collaborative supervision of 1 maintenance staff.
- Partner with internal departments including Accounting, Compliance, and Services.
- Participate in committees and support organizational initiatives.
- File management, scanning, and copying.
- Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required. Professional HR certifications preferred, such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.
- 3–5 years of human resources experience required.
- Strong knowledge of benefit administration, HR practices, employment laws, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with HRIS systems (Paylocity preferred).
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- High level of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Positive attitude with strong problem-solving and follow-through skills.
Must maintain a consistent and reliable work schedule - Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
- Service-oriented mindset with a commitment to supporting employees.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative small nonprofit environment.
- Must pass a Level II background check/fingerprinting (https://info.flclearinghouse.com), drug screening
Compensation: Low $50K range. Full-Time/Exempt; Office hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5:30pm
