Granby Ranch is a year-round mountain resort in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Located just 90 miles west of Denver, three miles from the town of Granby, Colorado, and 20 miles outside Rocky Mountain National Park, Granby Ranch offers a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering skiing (downhill and cross-country), mountain biking, hiking, and golf. Granby Ranch has nearly 1,000 feet of vertical drop and over 400 acres of terrain suitable for skiing, biking, and hiking for all skill levels. The East Mountain features a downhill mountain bike park, accessed by the high-speed Quick Draw quad chairlift, which also provides entry to numerous cross-country biking and hiking trails.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Human Resources (HR) Specialist works closely with the HR Manager, executing a variety of HR functions to support management and employees. The HR Specialist supports recruitment and onboarding/offboarding, J-1 visa student exchange program, benefit administration, employee relations, performance management, payroll, policy development and interpretation, workers’ compensation, and compliance with labor and employment laws. The HR Specialist also oversees the employee housing program (from check-in to check-out, including bi-weekly housing inspections), the issuing of employee uniforms, and the development and scheduling of shuttle routes and shuttle drivers to get employees to and from work.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
General HR:
- Maintains confidentiality and appropriate professional relationships with all levels of employees.
- Provides HR coverage with professional, friendly, helpful, and approachable demeanor.
- Greets and assists employees and resort guests with walk-up inquiries.
- Processes benefit enrollments and initiates COBRA notices. Answers employees’ benefit questions and escalates issues as appropriate.
- Administers employee perks and discount programs including Real Deals, Gold Pass, recreational exchange programs, gear discount websites, and Shoes for Crews program.
- Uses the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) on a daily basis with a high level of accuracy; enters personnel changes (pay changes, position changes, leaves of absence, new hires, terminations, etc.). Creates and runs reports and distributes all-employee announcements via the HRIS.
- Responds to inquiries about employment with Granby Ranch.
- Creates job postings, assists managers with reviewing applicants and interviewing candidates when requested, and posts Granby Ranch job openings on external websites, job boards, and with a variety of associations.
- Opens and monitors workers’ compensation claims, assists injured employees schedule appointments, corresponds with claims adjusters, and coordinates work restrictions and returns to work with the appropriate manager.
- Supports the J-1 visa student exchange program; solicits needs from managers, sets up interviews, corresponds with program sponsors, and supports the onboarding/offboarding of J-1 students.
- Completes employment verifications, I-9 verifications, generates offer letters, initiates background checks, and ensures onboarding paperwork and tasks are complete.
- Oversees uniform checkouts and returns and tracks uniform inventory.
- Prepares documents necessary for bi-weekly payroll processing.
- With assistance from the HR Manager, supports and advises managers on performance management and corrective action.
- Supports the HR Manager with employee relations, conducting investigations and ensuring compliance with company policies, including providing a workplace free from harassment and discrimination.
- Maintains personnel files, including I-9s, benefits, workers’ compensation, and other files. Includes scanning and copying and uploading documents to the HRIS.
- Acts as a delegate for the HR Manager in their absence.
- Monitors and responds timely to general HR and company email accounts.
Employee Housing:
- Oversees and facilitates the employee housing program, including issuing tenant leases, owner leases, confirming arrival plans and check-in times with employees, and issuing keys and key codes.
- Provides timely communication with tenants from prior to arrival through departure.
- Collects and tracks all rent, fees, and security deposits.
- Conducts and documents bi-weekly and move-out inspections.
- Works with property managers and property owners to address all tenant concerns and damages to property.
- Schedules cleaning of units.
- Ensures that bedding is laundered and replaced for the next guest when the company hosts trainers or other overnight guests of the company.
- Some occasional light cleaning may be required between tenants or overnight guests.
Shuttles:
- Creates and establishes shuttle routes at the beginning of each season, based on employee housing locations and employee work schedules.
- Develops weekly shuttle driver schedules, assigns drivers to support ticket scanning between routes, and communicates changes and adjustments with all drivers and stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with all drivers on the shuttle team.
- Plans and organizes Day-Off Shuttle activities and locations for employees.
- Fields non-routine requests for rides outside of the standard shuttle routes.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the HR Manager and/or General Manager with special projects.
- Identifies and initiates projects and tasks that need completed.
- May gather information and prepare responses to audit requests and inquiries from state and federal agencies.
- Assists with orientation, training, employee events (end of season, employee recognition) throughout the year.
- Acts as a positive, professional role model, adhering to all company policies and hospitality standards.
- Maintains an exceptional level of guest service in all interactions with guests, fellow employees and other department managers.
- May assist operations during high volume periods including guest services, ticket scanning, concerts, special events, and shuttle driving.
- Flexibility in work schedule, including availability on weekends and holidays, with availability for company orientations and employee functions is required.
- Works collaboratively with all departments to learn critical elements of each position.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Self-directed with the ability to prioritize and execute tasks independently with minimal direction or supervision.

- Speaks, reads, and writes in English fluently.
- Communicates effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
- Must possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn new software programs, including an HRIS.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- College coursework and/or college degree is preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years direct human resources work experience is required. A college degree in human resources may substitute for two (2) years of HR work experience.
- At least one (1) year of administrative or office experience is required.
- Prior experience using an HRIS is strongly preferred.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License, good driving record and be insurable under our company policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Dexterity for filing, typing, and other basic office skills.
- Verbal and auditory abilities necessary for communication with others.
- Primarily office work with weekly travel by car within a 10-mile radius to visit and inspect employee housing units.
- May occasionally work outdoors for various duties in a mountain environment with variable weather conditions.
- Occasional requirements for outdoor work to assist with employee events.
