OverviewGeneral Manager
Carlisle Country Club | Carlisle, Pennsylvania
Carlisle Country Club, nestled on a beautiful past farmland site in central Pennsylvania, recently celebrated 100 years of community history. Formed in the golden years of golf course architecture the club was recently acquired by a local group of businessmen dedicated to positioning the club for the next century with enhancements to facilities, member experience and prominence in the region. The new ownership group, Carlisle Golf Group, retained Commonwealth Advisory Partners (CAP) to operate the club and assist in growing the club. The club has welcomed more than 30 new members in the past nine months since the new ownership has assumed control. A new golf course irrigation system is being installed along with new equipment to ensure improvement of conditions and turf quality. Jason Straka, of Frye/Straka Global Golf Course Design is consulting on ongoing renovations aiming to enhance the overall playability and member experience while preserving the club's legacy. The new ownership primarily is focused on modernizing the club to create a more vibrant club experience, attracting more youth, families, and young professionals.
Position Overview
The General Manager (GM) serves as the chief operating executive at Carlisle Country Club and is responsible for the financial performance of the Club in accordance with the approved annual plan, providing strategic leadership, operational excellence, and exceptional member experience across all areas of the organization. Reporting directly to CAP, the management team representing ownership, the GM oversees day-to-day operations while working collaboratively with all department leaders to elevate the club experience for members and guests.
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated background in operating a for profit business successfully and be a visible, engaging leader with strong financial acumen, a passion for hospitality, along with a proven ability to build positive relationships with members, staff, and the community.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Governance
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Management Team and staff.
- Provide professional leadership and recommendations on strategy, policy, and long-term planning.
- Implement approved policies, budgets, and strategic initiatives.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and service hospitality excellence.
- Direct and coordinate all club operations, including:
- Golf operations and course maintenance (in collaboration with the Director of Golf and Agronomy Manager)
- Food & Beverage operations
- Private events
- Membership sales, marketing, and retention
- Facilities, capital assets, and grounds
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and service quality.
- Coordinate with the Management Team to develop and manage the Club's annual operating and capital budgets.
- Monitor financial performance and implement cost controls while maintaining service standards.
- Ensure clear, accurate, and timely daily financial reporting.
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth and operational efficiencies.
- Be highly visible and accessible to the membership.
- Lead initiatives focused on member satisfaction, retention, and growth.
- Oversee membership onboarding, communications, and engagement programs.
- Address member concerns promptly and professionally.
- Recruit, train, lead, and evaluate department heads and staff.
- Build a positive workplace culture that promotes teamwork, accountability, and development.
- Ensure competitive staffing levels and adherence to HR best practices.
- Collaborate with the Management Team on long-range planning and capital improvement projects.
- Oversee execution of approved capital initiatives.
- Support the Club's evolving needs while respecting its traditions and history.
- Minimum of five years of management experience in a private country club, golf club, or hospitality environment.
- Proven experience working with executive management.
- Strong financial management and budgeting skills.
- Demonstrated success leading teams and departments.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Knowledge of golf operations, food & beverage, and private events preferred.
- Proven ability to operate a financially profitable business in accordance with the annual plan

- Competitive salary up to $150,000 commensurate with experience
- Performance-based incentives up to $10,000 or more
