Job Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist supports the organization's environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs by performing a variety of routine tasks under direct supervision. The role involves collecting and recording data, assisting with inspections and audits, supporting compliance activities, and helping prepare safety reports and documentation. Working across multiple specialty areas, the assistant helps maintain a safe and compliant workplace while gaining foundational experience in EHS practices and procedures. Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and the ability to follow established protocols are essential for success in this position.
Job Duties
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collect environmental and safety data through sampling, observation, and measurement.
- Assist with workplace safety inspections and environmental audits, accurately documenting findings.
- Support the preparation and maintenance of safety and compliance records, reports, and documentation.
- Participate in incident investigations by gathering information and assisting with follow-up actions.
- Help develop, update, and deliver safety training materials and communications.
- Assist with regulatory compliance activities, such as updating logs, permits, and compliance checklists.
Requested Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree from an advanced college or university.

EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or a related field
EXPERIENCE:
- Two or more years of relevant EHS experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in using EHS management software and standard office applications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical ability to perform field inspections and respond to incidents as needed
OSHA 30-Hour General Industry or Construction Safety Certification: Provides in-depth knowledge of occupational safety regulations and best practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication for preparing reports, documentation, and training materials
- Ability to communicate technical information to diverse audiences, including non-technical staff
- Strong presentation and training delivery skills, Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Capability to lead or participate in teams, committees, or safety initiatives, Ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels and across departments
