Pay Range Exempt
Salary Range 130,000

Job Summary
This position serves as the Foundation's controller - the technical accounting authority responsible for the integrity of the monthly and annual close. The role does not supervise staff; instead, it partners with the Associate Director, AR Manager, and Senior Endowment & Fund Accountant - each of whom reviews transactional work within their own area - to ensure the close is accurate, timely, and well-controlled

Job Duties
• Own the month-end and year-end close: consolidate entries from all areas, record accruals/adjusting entries, and review journal entries for accuracy (preparer/reviewer).
• Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts; ensure GAAP (ASC 958) compliance across all fund types.
• Set technical accounting policy for contributions, pledges, investments, and net assets; resolve complex or judgment-based accounting questions raised by the team.
• Establish and maintain internal controls and segregation of duties across the close cycle.
• Prepare the monthly financial reporting package (statements, budget-to-actual, variance, KPIs) for the AVP's review and Board distribution.
• Partner with the AVP on regulatory reporting and the external audit by supplying schedules, reconciliations, and technical support (the AVP holds primary ownership of both).

Requested Minimum Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.

Experience:
At least seven years of progressive nonprofit or fund accounting experience, including ownership of a full close cycle is also required.

Other Preferences for Consideration
  • CPA or in active progress.
  • Eight plus years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Expert knowledge of GAAP for nonprofit/fund accounting (ASC 958) and internal-control design.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment on technical accounting matters without supervisory authority over other staff.
• Strong written communication for board- and audit-facing reporting.
• Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and endowment software (Fundriver, Adavico, or NPact FIT) preferred.
