I'm currently partnering with a growing organization in New York, NY that is seeking an experienced Controller to take ownership of their financial operations. My client is looking for someone who can manage the full accounting cycle across a complex, multi-entity structure while driving process improvements and ensuring compliance with financial standards. This is a high-impact role that will work closely with the VP of Finance and play a critical part in supporting the company's continued growth.

Responsibilities

• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and related reconciliations.

• Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies while maintaining comprehensive documentation.

• Manage revenue recognition processes and reporting in alignment with company policies and industry guidelines.

• Monitor inventory activities and support cost accounting processes, including margin analysis where applicable.

• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet substantiations to ensure accuracy.

• Collaborate with the VP of Finance on financial reporting, audit preparations, and initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

• Support external audits and tax filings by coordinating deliverables with auditors and advisors.

• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, systems, and close cycle efficiency.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management roles.
• Expertise in managing month-end close processes and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in handling General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable functions.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and its application in financial operations.
• Experience in the retail sector or with inventory-related accounting is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Familiarity with accounting software like NetSuite is a plus.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills with a focus on detail and accuracy.
