CHIEF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
1.0 FTE to begin July 1, 2026
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Location: Administration Building
Hours: 8.0 hrs/day; 260 days/yr
Pay: Competitive Salary Based on Experience
Supervisor: Superintendent

Pay Range: $123,412-152,760
Start Date: July 1, 2026
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve as the executive leader responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communications and engagement strategies in direct partnership with the Superintendent. Provide strategic oversight of all internal and external communications to ensure alignment with organizational vision, brand, strategic plan, and district initiatives.
2. Encourages and enhances communication, understanding, trust and mutual support between Longview Public Schools and all stakeholders.
3. Keeps the community informed and involved in district activities and initiatives.
4. Shares the district’s mission, vision for the future, successes and challenges.
5. Increases student, staff and community pride in Longview Public Schools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or Accredited in Public Relations.
2. Masters Degree preferred.
3. Minimum of five years public relations experience in a school district or related industry.
4. Experience in both internal and external public relations programs.
5. Experience in researching, creating, implementing and evaluating communication plans.
6. Evidence of adherence to the code of ethics of the public relations profession.
7. Knowledge of the unique district community preferred.
8. Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills. Spanish preferred, not required.
9. Proficiency with current technology for performance of duties; including publication/print and web software.
10. Excellent analytical and critical thinking and judgment skills.
11. Proven record of working well in a team environment.
12. Ability to maintain high productivity, flexibility, self-direction, responsiveness and multi-tasking.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Advise and partner with the Superintendent and executive leadership team on strategic communications, public affairs, branding, and stakeholder engagement.
2. Lead development and execution of strategic communications plans that support the district’s multi-year strategic plan, ensuring clear alignment between organizational goals, key initiatives, and stakeholder messaging.
3. Lead and oversee all district communications functions, including media relations, crisis communications, digital strategy, print publications, advertising, social media, website management, video production, and brand development.
4. Serve as the designated district spokesperson and primary media relations professional, building and maintaining strong relationships with media outlets and key stakeholders.
5. Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans supporting major organizational initiatives, including ballot measures, boundary reviews, construction programs, and strategic priorities.
6. Direct crisis communications strategy and emergency response messaging; develop templates, protocols, and communication systems to ensure timely, accurate, and multilingual outreach.
7. Provide executive oversight of district and school websites, social media platforms, and automated messaging systems to ensure accessibility, compliance, and audience engagement.
8. Plan and execute large-scale district events, including community forums, staff events, ribbon cuttings, and others.
9. Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, business leaders, community organizations, and nonprofit partners.
10. Utilize data analytics and performance metrics to evaluate communication effectiveness and report outcomes to executive leadership and governing boards.
11. Ensure equitable access to information through language access practices and culturally responsive communications strategies.
12. Develop and manage a departmental budget and lead a support staff to achieve the district’s communication goals.
13. Coordinate and lead a monthly meeting of the Board of Director’s Communications Sub-Committee.
14. Conduct recognition programs for employees and volunteers.
15. Grant writing responsibilities and support may be considered for inclusion in the future.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Communicate verbally and in writing inclusive of speaking and hearing.
2. Stand or sit for sustained periods of time.
3. Use hands for fine manipulations including keyboarding.
4. Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch and climb stairs.
5. Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling.
6. Work at low physical exertion for a period of at least eight hours daily, perform work beyond a standard 40-hour week according to work load.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Contract Term: 260 days (221 contracted days, 14 holidays & 25 vacation days); estimated start date: July 1, 2026
Salary: $123,412-$152,760 based on qualifications and experience.
