Business Clerk InternWilson School District is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Student Intern to support our Business Department. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in school finance and public sector accounting while working with experienced professionals.
This part-time internship offers a competitive hourly rate of $18.50 and follows a 6-month schedule. Ideal for candidates pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
JOB SUMMARY
Wilson Elementary School District #7 is seeking an organized and detail oriented Business Clerk Intern to support the stabilization and standardization of Business Office operations. This paid, part time, one year student internship is designed for students interested in business operations, accounting, or finance who want hands on experience supporting internal controls, documentation, and audit readiness in a public school district environment.
This role focuses on record retention, office organization, SOP development, and tool creation, and provides backup support to the Business Support Intern.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Business Office Organization and Record Retention
- SOP, Automation, and Process Development
- Template and Tool Development
- Cash Reconciliation Documentation and Controls
- Backup and Administrative Support
Assist with:
- Business Office Organization and Record Retention
- Organize physical and electronic business office records
- Maintain record retention practices in accordance with USFR requirements
- Assist with organizing capital asset and stewardship documentation
- Support audit readiness by maintaining complete and accessible files
- SOP and Process Development
- Assist in documenting standardized operating procedures for business office functions
- Develop step by step workflow documentation for purchasing, accounts payable, payroll support, and cash reconciliation
- Ensure procedures reflect District policies and financial oversight requirements
- Template and Tool Development
- Develop checklists, templates, and tracking tools aligned with SOPs
- Create file naming conventions and documentation standards
- Maintain logs for quotes, approvals, and reconciliation completion
- Cash Reconciliation Documentation and Controls
- Maintain organized files for monthly bank reconciliations and supporting documentation
- Track completion of monthly reconciliations and required approvals
- Maintain reconciliation checklists and supporting tools
- Provide documentation support during audits and monitoring reviews
- Backup and Administrative Support
- Provide backup support to the Business Office Support Intern as needed
- Assist with clerical and administrative tasks during high volume periods
- Support preparation for audits, reviews, and oversight visits
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Accounting or Finance degree program
• Enrollment must be maintained throughout the internship
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must be able to obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

We are a Pre-K through 8th grade school district in Phoenix, Arizona, established as the seventh school district organized in Maricopa County in 1879 and named for Mr. W. J. Wilson, a school board member. The district name was changed in the mid-1930's to Hawkins School. From Wilson to Hawkins to Ward to Skiff, the District was bought by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and relocated to its current location in the early 1980's and named Wilson Primary and Wilson Elementary, opening on Martin Luther King Day in 1985. The district boundaries cover an area from Roosevelt Street to the north; the Salt River to the south; 40 th Street to the east; and, 16 th Street to the west.
